Dominic Rennie Raab (born 25 February 1974) is a politician from the United Kingdom. Raab completed his mandatory two-year training contract at the major City of London law firm Linklaters after graduating from Cambridge. Raab qualified as a solicitor in the United Kingdom with Linklaters in 2000 but left the firm shortly after. Raab worked at Linklaters on project finance, international litigation, and competition law. This included secondments at Liberty (a human rights organization) and time in Brussels advising on EU and WTO law.
Raab stated in 2009, prior to becoming an MP, that he did not support the Human Rights Act “The mere passage of the Human Rights Act triggered the formulation of claims by lawyers and judicial reasoning by courts, both of which used human rights arguments that would never have been dared before. Rights have become contagious, and the Human Rights Act has opened the door to vast new categories of claims that can be judicially enforced against the government through the courts.”
