The attack started when the then-20-year-old Adam Lanza, shot and killed his mother named Nancy Lanza. The incident occurred in the home that the Adam and his mother shared in Newtown. Nancy Lanza was shot four times with a 22-calibre rifle.
Adam Lanza carried a hundred rounds of ammunition stored in high-capacity magazines including other heavy ammunition and drove his mother’s car to Sandy Hook Elementary School. Lanza upon arrival left the shotgun in the car and shot his way through a window next to the school’s locked security door. Lanza was immediately confronted by the Sandy Hook principal Dawn Hochsprung and school psychologist Mary Sherlach. Lanza shot and killed both women that confronted him.
