Why is Thanksgiving in November?
Thanksgiving always takes place on the fourth Thursday in November. Thanksgiving, however, used to be observed on the final Thursday of each month. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Thanksgiving proclamation in 1863, at the height of the Civil War, urging people to set aside the final Thursday in November as a day of thanksgiving. After that, celebrating the holiday on that day was customary.
