She was initially not well received by the public, particularly after the passing of Princess Diana in 1997, but in 2005, she wed Prince Charles.

Shand and Charles, Prince of Wales, met in 1972 while playing polo in Windsor Great Park. Although each spent the majority of that time married to another person, the two started a relationship that would last for more than 25 years.

Andrew Parker Bowles, a cavalry officer, and Camilla were married in 1973. Thomas and Laura were their children. Lady Diana Spencer, whom the Prince married in 1981, was selected by Charles with Camilla Parker Bowles’ assistance at his request.

The couple stayed together a lot over the years, either at Highgrove, Charles’ marital home or at Bodehyde Manor, owned by the Parker Bowles. By the time an embarrassing news item forced Charles to confess his adultery on British television in 1994, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and both of their spouses were aware of their relationship with Parker Bowles. After a protracted separation, Charles and Diana announced their divorce less than two years after Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles’ divorce in January 1995.

On July 17, 1947, Camilla Shand was born in London, England, and later became Camilla Parker Bowles. She was raised in Plumpton, Sussex, on a sizable country estate by her parents, Bruce and Rosalind Shand, and her two younger siblings. Her father served as East Sussex’s Vice Lord Lieutenant and was a prosperous wine merchant.

Will Camilla be Queen?

Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles, will hold the title of Queen Consort once he becomes king. The Duchess of Cornwall will assume the title when her son ascends to the throne, according to Queen Elizabeth II.
