Every year, an exceptional international student from an African nation receives the $5,000 Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year. In honor of Richard Van Loon, the tenth president of Carleton University, the award was established in 2005. Two scholarships will be given out this year.

Full-time undergraduate or graduate students advancing from one year to the next in any program of study at Carleton University will be eligible winners. The recipient’s study permit for Canada must be valid. Financially disadvantaged students will be taken into account.

The Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship Committee recommends recipients of this annual award, which is given to a deserving overseas student from an African nation. Full-time students enrolled in any Carleton University program for a minimum of one year who possess a valid study permit are eligible to receive this award. Students who are in financial need will be taken into consideration.

Every year, an exceptional international student from an African nation receives the $5,000 Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship. Now the scholarship is available for the 2023–2024 school year. In 2005, friends, relatives, and coworkers established the prize in memory of Carleton University’s tenth president, Richard J. Van Loon.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You have to be an African national.
  • You have to be a foreign student and have a current study permit for Canada.
  • You must be enrolled full-time at Carleton University and making excellent progress in each year of your chosen program of study.
  • You have to be in excellent standing academically.
