He was born on June 15, 1994, and started off as a football player, at BK Skjold. He started out as a defensive player and had a friend named Kenneth Zohore, whom he played the Danish youth national team with. Poulsen was switched to a position as a striker after Zohoré joined FC Copenhagen.
