Da Costa was the USM Libreville and Vantour Mangoungou’s head coach. He also oversaw the U17 national team of Gabon. He served as the head coach of Gabon’s senior national team from 1987 to 1989 and from 1994 to 1997. He once again guided the Gabonese Panthères in June 2000.
He took charge of the Gabonese Football Federation in April 2013. During the 1996 African Cup of Nations, Alain da Costa was a member of the Gabon national team.
