2024/2025 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant In Canada

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program funds the top candidates for postdoctoral positions nationwide and abroad who will favorably impact the nation’s social, economic, and research-based development.

The program’s goal for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships is to attract and maintain the best postdoctoral candidates from across the country and around the world; foster their leadership potential; and set them up for success as tomorrow’s research leaders

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is distinct in that it prioritizes the interaction between The host institution’s commitment to the research program and alignment with its strategic aims; and the applicant’s merit and potential to begin a successful career including a lot of research.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program requires applicants to work closely with the suggested host institution to complete their application.

Eligible Courses

Fellowships are given out in equal parts to:

• The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
• Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the
• Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Deadlines

To apply, prepare, and submit an application. Applicants must obtain the host institution’s endorsement (institutions may have internal deadlines).

• 17 September 2024, at 20:00 EDT, is the deadline for applying.
• From October through December 2024, there will be an assessment of applications
• In the middle of February 2025, applicants will be expected to be informed of the outcome. Email notifications will be sent to applicants as soon as the findings are posted on ResearchNet.
• 2025, April through October is when payments start.

Eligibility

Foreign nationals, Canadian citizens, and permanent residents are all able to apply as long as they fulfill the requirements listed below:

• Applicants may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution if they are neither citizens of Canada nor permanent residents of Canada.
• Candidates are eligible for a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution if they are citizens or permanent residents of Canada and received their PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree from a foreign university.
• Candidates who hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and who graduated from Canadian universities with a PhD, PhD-equivalent degree, or health professional degree may be awarded a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship to study in Canada or abroad.

Other Eligibility Criteria

Candidates may apply to the 2024–25 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program only if their current or previous postdoctoral fellowships from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC officially expire on or before September 30, 2025, and before the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship begins. It is not authorized to terminate the agency-specific postdoctoral award early to apply for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program.

Applications for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program and other agency-specific postdoctoral fellowship programs may be submitted concurrently, either to the same federal granting agency or to a different one, as long as the proposed research for each application is within the purview of the federal granting agency.
