For as long as I can remember, I have been employed. I’ve always made my own money, whether it was by delivering or selling newspapers, pumping gas, or working in construction or a factory.

Parsons joined the US Marine Corps after almost failing out of high school. He was given the 26th Marine Regiment, which was a member of the 1st Marine Division and was attached to it.

He served as a rifleman in the Quang Nam Province of Vietnam in 1969 with the Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines.
