Irish Republican Colm Murphy was the first defendant convicted in connection with the Omagh bombing. His birthday is August 18, 1952. Murphy served in the paramilitary Irish Republican movement beginning in his late teens. The Garda Sochána found a loaded gun in Murphy’s car when he was arrested in Dundalk for an assault in March 1972.

After that, Colm Murphy was found guilty and sentenced to two years in jail. Murphy was a prisoner at the Curragh military prison, but in October 1972, he escaped, and he wasn’t captured again until May 1973. He received a second prison sentence in June 1976.

Colm Murphy’s Cause Of Death

Colm Murphy, 70, is believed to have died peacefully earlier today in the Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda, Co. Meath, due to a lung disease. On April 18, 2023, Murphy passed away at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Droghed. Funeral plans will reportedly be revealed at a later time, according to online publications.
