Deborah (Deb) Lin Smith passed away on December 15, 2021, at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer.

Deb was born to Ronald and Karin Smith in Seattle, and shortly thereafter the family moved to Billings, Montana. Deb attended Boulder Elementary, Will James Junior High, and Billings West High School, graduating in 1984.

She was always a good student and studied molecular biology at the University of California, San Diego.

In 1988, she earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology.

She relocated to Seattle after graduation and remained there for the remainder of her life.

Her initial position was at The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and she then worked at Zymogenetics as a bench scientist.

She met Mark Anderson on a blind date, and the two fell in love.

They married on a record-breaking hot summer day, July 13, 1996, and settled in West Seattle after that. This past July, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Her two children, Hanna, a senior at Tufts University, and Keira, a senior in high school, were her biggest joys in life.

Deb has always been a sports fan, having participated in intramural volleyball and varsity volleyball in high school.

She was a die-hard supporter of the Seattle Sounders, Seattle Storm, and University of Washington Huskies.

She was a fantastic cook and baker who enjoyed experimenting with different tastes and flavours.

She had a deep affection for animals, particularly dogs, and her yellow lab Bailey will miss her terribly.

She volunteered at the YMCA, the Red Cross, voter registration, and at a Swedish hospital as a baby cuddler, among other places.

While the girls were growing up, she also spent a lot of time at their concerts and sporting events, such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, and crew.
