In 1934, Russell was born. Bill Russell was a peculiar legend. Despite being lanky and reserved, he began his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a center for the Boston Celtics and spent his whole playing career with that team. Standing at six feet ten inches, he was taller than most people had ever seen someone. Unlike other basketball stars, he was adept at stopping his opponents in their tracks rather than scoring points.

 

Did Bill Russell win any rings as a coach?

From 1957 to 1959, Russell participated in the NBA All-Star Game. His team won the NBA championship in 1957, 1959–66, and once more in 1968–69. Prior to Russell’s debut season, the Celtics had never claimed a championship.

Through his 13-season tenure, they only lost two championships after that. He played and coached up until his retirement in 1969, during which time he amassed 11 NBA titles as a player and two more as a coach.
