Gabriel Barbosa Almeida, also known as Gabigol or Gabi, is a well-known Brazilian footballer who currently serves as a forward for Flamengo, a club in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, as well as the Brazil national team. At the tender age of 8, Gabriel joined Santos FC’s youth academy in 2004. His exceptional goal-scoring abilities in the club’s youth divisions earned him the moniker Gabigol.

Gabriel joined Benfica on loan for the entire season starting on August 31, 2017. He made his debut on September 12 in a UEFA Champions League match against CSKA Moscow. In January 2019, Flamengo announced that they had reached an agreement with Inter Milan to loan Gabriel until December 31, 2019. Then, in January 2020, Flamengo announced that they had agreed on a permanent transfer for Gabriel.

He signed a contract with the club until December 2024, with the deal reportedly worth €18.5m. On September 4, 2022, Gabriel became the youngest player to score 100 goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A during a match between Flamengo and Ceará, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Maracanã, in the 25th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. On July 1, 2023, Gabriel scored his 150th goal for Flamengo in a 2-0 victory against Fortaleza, making him the ninth player in the club’s history to achieve this milestone.

Gabriel’s journey with the Brazilian national team began in November 2011 when he was called up to the Brazil under-18s squad. He continued to represent his country and in June 2021, he was included in Brazil’s squad for the 2021 Copa América, which took place in Brazil.
