Gladys was born in Woodhouse on July 21, 1916. Within minutes of her birth, she was given the lifelong moniker ‘Kitty’ after a nurse noted she resembled Pretty Kitty, a 1970s icon.
She told The Star in an interview commemorating her 100th birthday, “I had a very joyful upbringing.” We were never bored, unlike many teenagers nowadays. We had no idea what the phrase meant.
