Dayo Odeyingbo’s NFL career has had a difficult beginning. The Indianapolis Colts selecting Michigan defensive end Kwity Paye with the 21st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was undoubtedly unexpected.
Particularly when they spent their only day two selection on another D-lineman coming off a ruptured Achilles in January of 2021. Vanderbilt’s Dayo Odeyingbo was that lineman. The draft’s 54th overall pick was him.
Chris Ballard, the general manager, and the business saw his brilliance and gave him top priority. Odeyingbo also got onto the field a lot early than anyone imagined.
Dayo Odeyingbo ended up playing in the remaining 10 games, and in just two of them, he played at least a third of the defensive snaps while averaging 27% overall.
He only made a total of six tackles, none of which were for a loss, half a sack, four pressures, and one forced fumble.
So why does Dayo suddenly burst onto the scene? First of all, contrary to popular belief, he played on the field during the previous season. Second, having a complete offseason to restore that power and explosiveness is very encouraging.
