How is Salman Rushdie alive?

Onstage at a lecture in New York state on Friday, Salman Rushdie, the Indian-born novelist who spent years in hiding when Iran urged Muslims to kill him because of his writing, was stabbed in the neck and body.

He was then flown to a hospital, according to police. Before Rushdie planned to give a speech at a gathering in Chautauqua, New York, on August 12, 2022, a guy stabbed him.

Rushdie was on a ventilator and unable to talk on Friday night following an attack that was denounced by authors and politicians throughout the world as an attack on the right to free speech.

He is still alive in the hospital and is recovering from his surgery.
