Anthony Hopkins is a Welsh actor, director, and producer. He is one of the British most recognizable and prolific actors. He is well known for his roles in The Silence of the Lambs, Legends of the Fall, Meet Joe Black, the Thor franchise, and King Lear. Hopkins is a recipient of two Academy Awards, three British Academy Film Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. He is undoubtedly one of the most decorated actors of his time.
Hopkins was born on 31 December 1937 in Port Talbot, Wales. He struggled in school but he was inspired by Welsh actor Richard Burton to make something of his life. Hopkins attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and moved on to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Hopkins got his first major role in 1968 working alongside Peter O’Toole in The Lion in Winter for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award. This was followed by other successful films such as The Girl from Petrovka, Magic, and The Elephant Man. Hopkins is not afraid to take on risky roles.
