Stephen Ray Perry is an American singer. As the lead singer of “Journey”, his singing voice gave them fans across generations. Fondly dubbed “The Voice” by Bon Jovi.
Perry was born on January 22, 1949. His interest in music peaked after listening to the song “Cupid” at the age of 12. Perry made his first public appearance with the band in 1977. He influenced the band’s sound to a more pop influenced style. The band went on to release their first album Infinity.
By 1984, Perry went solo with the release of the Street Talk, it went double gold and topped the charts. He was involved in the “We Are the World” project and worked on the album with other notable singers.
Perry has been on and off the Journey and was eventually inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2020.
