Alexander Trebek was a Canadian-American game show host and television personality. He is best known for hosting the syndicated general knowledge quiz game show Jeopardy! for 37 seasons from its revival in 1984. He also hosted other game shows like Double Dare, High Rollers, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth.

George Alexander Trebek was born on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. His father was a Ukrainian emigrant. Young Alex grew up in a bilingual household and spoke English and French fluently. He graduated from the University of Ottawa where he majored in philosophy in 1961.

Alex got the job to host the quiz game show Jeopardy in 1984 when the previous host Art Fleming (a friend of Trebek’s) declined to return to the job. Alex hosted the show from 1984 to his final episode which was to air on Christmas Day 2020. On July 27, 2022, NBC announced that Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will succeed Trebek as the permanent hosts of Jeopardy!

Is Alex Trebek Still Alive or Dead?

On March 6, 2019, Alex Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and promised to fight the disease as long as he would. Trebek kept to his word and fought the disease for 20 months and died on November 8, 2020, at the age of 80.
