The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for 2025–2026 is now accepting applications, as announced with pleasure by the American Embassy in Croatia.

This yearly program, which is a component of the Fulbright exchange for experienced mid-career professionals with proven leadership potential, provides a year in the US for graduate-level non-degree study, leadership development, and meaningful professional cooperation with US colleagues.

Through the initiative, Americans and their overseas professional counterparts can establish enduring and fruitful professional relationships by giving future leaders and policymakers exposure to American society, culture, and professional specialties.

Benefits of Fellowship to Fellows

The Humphrey Fellowship offers professional development opportunities to support fellows’ advancement and facilitate the formation of alliances that enable them to further their work. Humphrey Fellows use immersive learning, teamwork, and networking to broaden their perspectives on their profession and global concerns.

This includes attending high-profile events with researchers and policymakers, taking part in specialized experiences at U.S. community colleges, attending workshops that improve the skill sets of Fellows, and much more.

Humphrey Fellows are grouped in cohorts at one of the 13 Humphrey host universities according to the professional skills of the Fellows and the impact areas of the host university.

Humphrey Fellows participate in an educational program taught by distinguished academic members without the need to fulfill any degree or certificate prerequisites. This enables them to attend conferences, travel, network with American colleagues in their industry, and form professional affiliations.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for the Humphrey Fellows program can apply through their respective Binational Fulbright Commissions or the Public Affairs Section of the American embassy in their home countries. For applicants to be considered for a Humphrey Fellowship Program, they’re required to:

  • Be a national of one of the qualifying nations
  • Have an undergraduate degree (a bachelor’s or first university degree).
  • Possess five years or more of full-time professional experience
  • A track record of service to the community and proven leadership abilities
  • Limited experience in the US
  • Shown fluency in the English language

Application Process

Interested candidates must apply to their nation’s Binational Fulbright Commission or Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy. The dates for applications differ by nation. Applications have to include:

  • Complete answers to all questions; English essay responses must fully address the prompt.
  • Two English-language letters of recommendation, one of which needs to come from the candidate’s present job.
  • Official transcripts available in English: Verify that the transcripts the applicant has uploaded are legitimate, official documents. Courses completed and grades must be listed on transcripts. Only in cases where the transcript fails to provide evidence of degree completion are diplomas required to be uploaded.
  • After the national selection process, nominees are reviewed by independent review committees in the United States, and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board makes the final decision about candidate approval. Candidates will be notified of their status by the U.S. Embassies and Binational Fulbright Commissions following approval by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Deadline for Application

The deadline for the 2025-2026 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program is on the 31st of May, 2024.
