David Robert Jones is professionally known as “David Bowie” was an English singer and songwriter. He was a pop icon and known for creating a different persona for his music videos.

He is one of the greatest artists of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide.

Bowie was described as an artistic child. He was passionate about music and was influenced by Elvis Presley.

He had an injury to his eyes as a child, despite several operations the eye did not recover and he ended up with anisocoria (making his eye iris change colors). As his career went on this became his most recognizable feature.

David Bowie Career

David started playing in music bands at the age of 15. He tried his hands on several bands before becoming a solo artist in 1966 and released his first single the same year.

In 1969, he released the single “Space Oddity” a few days before Apollo 11 launched into space, the song was a major hit. Bowie was known for his elaborate outfits and red hair.

He released his fifth album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and it was top of the chart for two years.

Bowie’s version of glam rock has influenced other pop artists. He was fearless in his performances and this earned him lots of recognition including the Hollywood Walk of Fame and six Grammys.

In 2015, Bowie was diagnosed with liver cancer, he tried several treatments. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, in his New York apartment surrounded by his wife Iman and children.

He died two days after his 69th birthday.
