Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was the husband of Queen Elizabeth II and served as the consort of the British monarch. He was the consort for 69 years making him the longest-serving royal consort in history. Prince Philip was born on 10 June 1921 as Prince of Greece and Denmark to the Greek and Danish royal families.

The Prince was educated in France and Germany, and the United Kingdom, where he met thirteen-year-old Elizabeth, heir of King George VI.

During the Second World War, he joined the British Navy despite having families like Prince Christoph of Hesse who fought on the opposing side. In March 1947, Prince Philip abandoned his Danish and Greek titles and adopted the surname Mountbatten from his mother’s family, to marry the Queen.

On November 20, 1947, Prince Philip married Elizabeth and became the Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich of Greenwich in the County of London.

The ceremony was recorded and viewed by 200 million viewers since then the Prince was always a step behind Queen Elizabeth supporting her.
