Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer and songwriter. He is known for his flamboyant and androgynous persona and for his hits, Purple Rain and Dirty Mind.

Prince was born on June 7, 1958, in Minnesota to a Jazz singer and pianist. His parents often performed together under the name Prince Rogers. Prince had keen interest for music and trained in classical ballet at the Minnesota Dance Theatre.

Prince released his first album For You at the age of 20, the single, Soft and Wet peaked at no. 92 on Billboard 100. His second album, Prince fared better, going platinum. His third album was more sexual and was successful as well. He went on to get his first Grammy nomination in 1984.

Prince starred in his first film in Purple Rain. The film grossed $68 million in the U.S. and Prince won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. He won three Grammy Awards for the soundtrack of the film.

On April 7, 2016, Prince was unresponsive on his jet while flying back to Minneapolis, the crew made an emergency landing, and he was treated at the hospital. Prince left the hospital against medical advice. By April 21, he was found unconscious at his home and was pronounced dead. He died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl at the age of 57.
