She was born Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone was born on 20 September 1934 in Rome, Italy. 15-year-old Loren entered the Miss Italia 1950 beauty pageant and was top three. She made her screen debut in a minor role in, the 1951 film Quo Vadis when she was 16 years old. And her first major role was on Aida where she received positive reviews.
Loren soon became an International star after she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures. She got the lead role in the 1960 war drama Two Women, winning an Academy Award for Best Actress, and the Cannes Film Festival’s best performance prize. By the 1960s, she was paid $1 million per film. She worked with Marcello Mastroianni, Charlton Heston, Clark Gable, Paul Newman, and Marlon Brando.
