John Kerin, was an Australian politician and economist who served as the Member of Parliament for Werriwa from 1983 to 1994. He was born on 21 November 193, in Bowral, New South Wales, Australia, and he grew up in Victoria.
Kerin attended both Hurlstone Agricultural High School and Bowral High School while growing up in a rural region. He ran a poultry farm before going on to get a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New England in Armidale in 1967 and a Master of Economics from the Australian National University in 1977.
Kerin worked at the Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics as he pursued his two degrees (ABARE). In 1983, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor Party representative for the electorate of Werriwa. He was appointed as Minister for Primary Industry in the Hawke government and held the position until 1991 when he became the Minister for Trade.
