British politician John Francis Spellar, who was born in Bromley on August 5, 1947, has served as Warley’s representative in parliament since 1992. Spellar attended Dulwich College and St. Edmund Hall, both in Oxford. He presided over the Oxford University Labour Club in 1967.

In the past, from 1982 to 1983, he represented Birmingham Northfield. He belongs to the Labour Party. He served as a minister in various sectors from 1997 and 2005. He served as the Whips Office’s Comptroller of the Household from 2008 to 2010. Following Labour’s entry into opposition, he served as a shadow foreign office minister from 2010 to 2015.

In the 1970 general election, Spellar ran in the Bromley constituency as the youngest candidate for Labour. Spellar served as the Labour Party’s deputy general secretary from 1980 to 1994. During this time, he was in charge of planning, raising funds for, and overseeing the party’s finances. Spellar was picked to run for Warley when Warley West was defeated in 1997. He won with a margin of 15,451 votes.

In March 2019, Spellar was the lone Labour MP to vote against mandating LGBT education in schools, receiving criticism from both the Liberal Democrats and LGBT Labour.
