Background

The whole nation was shocked yesterday to see President Nana Addo lifting the partial lockdown imposed in Kumasi and Accra as a result of Coronavirus.

Many were expecting that the lockdown would be extended for a few days or extended to other cities and towns where a few cases were recorded.

But surprisingly, Nana Addo said there’s no need to be on lockdown again.

The president said the ease of restrictions was because of Ghana’s ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing of infected persons among other factors.

The factors include, ” the enhancement of our capacity to test, the expansion in the numbers of our treatment and isolation centres, our better understanding of the dynamism of the virus, the ramping up of our domestic capacity to produce our own personal protective equipment, sanitisers and medicines, the modest successes chalked at containing the spread of the virus in Accra and Kumasi, and the severe impact on the poor and vulnerable…”.

He added: “In view of our ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing of infected persons, the enhancement of our capacity to test, the expansion in the numbers of our treatment and isolation centres, our better understanding of the dynamism of the virus, the ramping up of our domestic capacity to produce our own personal protective equipments, sanitisers and medicines, the modest successes chalked at containing the spread of the virus in Accra and Kumasi, and the severe impact on the poor and vulnerable, I have taken the decision to lift the three-week-old restriction on movements in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and Kasoa, and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and its contiguous districts, with effect from 1 am on Monday, 20th April.

“In effect, tomorrow will see the partial lockdown in Accra and Kumasi being lifted”.

  1. Comment: it’s ok that you guys are around to share info. the issue is, you are no journalist, fine, probably an award winning teacher. there are certain things you don’t say in writing a story or an editorial when is not proven scientifically, that is by survey. example the whole country was shocked when… blaa blaa.. lifted the lockdown. first and foremost, was the whole country on lockdown. did the whole country feel the heat of the affected areas where there was lockdown? secondly, I don’t get it when people decide to think for others. you think it will make the story rich or get the headlines, wrong. be truthful and honest, the rest will follow.
