American actor and director L. Q. Jones, also known as Justus Ellis McQueen Jr., is best known for his work in Sam Peckinpah’s films. His birthday was August 19, 1927, and he passed away on July 9, 2022.

After serving in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946, Jones attended Lamar Junior College and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 and 1951.

Before opting to pursue acting, he performed stand-up comedy, tried his hand at professional baseball and football for a spell, and even tried his hand at ranching in Nicaragua after getting in touch with his former college roommate, Fess Parker.

In 1954, Parker was already working in Hollywood as a film and television actor.

Jones is a practising Methodist and a registered Republican.

Neta Lewis was LQ Jones’ wife; they were married in 1950 and divorced in 1973. LQ Jones and his ex-wife Nate Lewis were married for 23 years during which time three children were born. Joneses, Stephen, Marlin, and Marily.
