Pence was selected as Donald Trump’s running mate in July 2016.
On November 8, 2016, when Trump won the election, Pence was sworn in as vice president of the United States. However, their administration came to an end four years later with a defeat to the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket.
On June 7, 1959, in Columbus, Indiana, Michael Richard Pence was born. Pence was one of six children raised by Nancy and Edward Pence, an American Army veteran who ran a chain of gas stations. Pence was politically influenced by his Irish Catholic upbringing.
His childhood hero was former President John F. Kennedy, and while a student at Columbus North High School, he worked as a volunteer for the Bartholomew County Democratic Party.
