Pierluigi Collina is a household name in soccer which transcends just refereeing because he was that good, and it is little wonder he has won the “Best Referee of the Year” award six times consecutively which to this day very day stands as a record. He was born on the 13th of February 1960 in Bologna. He had his education in Bologna and graduated from the University of Bologna in 1984 with a degree in economics. He started his career as a defender before becoming a referee in 1977 and would since go on to become arguably the Greatest Referee of all Time with over 100 high-profile matches to his name.
