Samuel Anthony Alito Jr. is an American lawyer and jurist who serves as an associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was born on April 1, 1950 in Trenton, New Jersey.
He was nominated and appointed on October 31, 2005 by then-President George Bush.
Alito graduated from Steinert High school in Hamilton. In 1972, he graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in history and political science and a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve. He performed three months of active duty and then three months of inactive duty before being released as a captain in 1980. Before earning his J.D. in 1975, Alito attended Yale Law School, where he served as editor of the Yale Law Journal.
