What Happened To Marcel Marceau’s Brother?

Working in the French underground, Marceau and his brother Alain helped children seek safety in Switzerland’s safe haven.

Marceau later served as a liaison officer between the allied forces and the General Charles de Gaulle’s Free French Army.

Marceau acquired the pantomime role of Arlequin in Baptiste soon after joining Jean-Louis Barrault’s company (which Barrault had interpreted in the film Les Enfants du Paradis).

Following his performance, Marceau was encouraged by the enthusiastic reviews to create his first “mimodrama,” Praxitele and the Golden Fish, at the Bernhardt Theatre. Marceau gained widespread acclaim and cemented his status as a mime performer.
