She has a Colombian mother and a Lebanese father. Shakira began belly dancing at a young age, and by the time she was 10 years old, she had started competing in talent shows and songwriting contests.
In 1990, she recorded her debut album, Magia, with Sony Music Colombia when she became 13 years old. Between 1995 and 2000, she had her Latin music breakthrough.
