Gaetz, the son of renowned Florida politician Don Gaetz, was raised in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After graduating from William & Mary Law School, he practiced law in private practice before deciding to run for state representative. He gained national attention after Trayvon Martin was killed in 2012 for endorsing Florida’s divisive “stand-your-ground statute.”
