SummerSlam 2022 was WWE’s 35th annual professional wrestling live event. It was only open to wrestlers from the promotion’s Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. The event aired on pay-per-view (PPV) around the world and was live-streamed through Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network globally. It took place on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, and was the first SummerSlam not hosted in August.

Pat McAfee defeated Happy Corbin in the opening match, Logan Paul defeated The Miz in the main event, The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) defeated The Street Profits (Angel Dawkins and Montez Ford) to retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, and Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Raw Women’s Championship. During the event, Bayley, Dakota Kai (who was released from her WWE contract in April), Iyo Sky (formerly known as Io Shirai), and Edge all made appearances.

This was the first WWE PPV event after WWE owner Vince McMahon, who had served as the company’s Chairman and CEO since 1982, retired. McMahon announced his retirement on July 22, just a week before SummerSlam.
