Dame Julie Andrews is an English actress, singer and author. She is best known for her role in Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins and the musical film The Sound of Music.

Born Julia Elizabeth Wells on 1 October 1935 in Surrey, England. The young Julia started performing with her parents on stage. In 1948, she became the the youngest solo performer ever to be seen in a Royal Variety Performance before King George VI and the future Queen Elizabeth.

She made her Broadway debut in the London musical The Boy Friend. Following the success of the musical, she went on to star in movies like, My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins. A role that earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. In 1965, Julie co starred with Christopher Plummer in the musical The Sound of Music.

She has been dubbed “Queen of Hollywood” for her role in The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Is Julie Andrews Still Alive or Dead?

In 1997, Julie Andrews lost her singing voice after a surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat. She however sued the doctor who operated on her because she did not have any nodules in her throat. She has undergone surgery four times but is unable to recover her singing voice. Julie is alive and well. In June 2022 she was awarded AFI Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
