Borussia Mönchengladbach is a professional football club located in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The club competes in the Bundesliga, the premier division of German football. Known as Die Fohlen (The Foals), the club was established in 1900 and took its name from a Latinized version of Prussia, which was a popular choice for German clubs during the time of the former Kingdom of Prussia.

In 1965, the team joined the Bundesliga and experienced its greatest success in the 1970s. Led by Hennes Weisweiler and later Udo Lattek, a young and dynamic squad with an aggressive playing style was formed. During this era, Mönchengladbach won the Bundesliga five times, clinched the UEFA Cup twice, and reached the final of the European Cup in 1977.

Since 2004, Borussia Mönchengladbach has been playing their home matches at Borussia Park, having previously used the Bökelbergstadion since 1919. With a membership exceeding 75,000 in 2016 and currently standing at 93,000 in 2021, they rank as the fifth-largest club in Germany. The club’s primary rival is 1. FC Köln, with whom they fiercely contest the Rheinland Derby.

  3. Performance level: U17 to U23

The final stage of a player’s development is the U23 squad. However, player promotion in the Borussia academy is unrelated to age and is instead focused on the development of the player. This means that our youngsters are appropriately challenged and therefore progress as best they can.
