About FC Augsburg

FC Augsburg is a professional football club located in Bavaria, Germany. The team competes in the Bundesliga, which is the highest division in the German football league system. Established in 1907 as Fußball-Klub Alemania Augsburg, the club changed its name to BC Augsburg from 1921 to 1969.

With a membership of over 18,800 individuals, FC Augsburg is the largest football club in Swabian Bavaria. Throughout its history, the club has experienced fluctuations between the second and third divisions, facing disappointment in the early 2000s when it was relegated to the fourth division for two seasons.

However, FC Augsburg rebounded from this setback and achieved promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011. Since then, the club has maintained its position in the top division. In the 2010s, FC Augsburg solidified its Bundesliga status, achieving a record-breaking fifth-place finish in the 2014-2015 season. The club also made its debut in European competition during the 2015-2016 UEFA Europa League, reaching the Round of 32 before being eliminated by Liverpool with a 1-0 aggregate score.

Trophies Won By FC Augsburg

The club, together with its youth club have won the Bayernliga (III-IV), five times – 1972–73, 1979–80, 1981–82, 1993–94, 2001–02. They have also won the Regionalliga Süd (II-III) twice – 1973–74 and 2005–06.

FC Augsburg Academy

FC Augsburg has made significant progress in professionalizing the development of young talent since being recognized as a centre of excellence in 2007. The structure and organization of processes have notably improved over the years. Moving forward, the youth performance centre (NLZ) of FC Augsburg will play a vital role in supporting the club’s growth and development.

The youth management centre includes teams from the development, performance, and transition areas, as officially defined. These teams must adhere to specific regulations set by the DFB and DFL. Compliance with these requirements is a crucial aspect evaluated during the DFL licensing process. It is important to note that teams in the basic area are managed separately from the junior performance structure.
