Azalea used to despise school because of the mockery she received for making her own outfits. She did, however, enthusiastically attend her art class. She eventually quit high school and began working with her mother to fund her dream of moving to the United States.
When she was 14 years old, she started rapping and even joined a group with two other girls. Her bandmates, on the other hand, were not serious about pursuing a career in music, so the group was eventually disbanded. She’s been a fan of hip-hop music since she was 11 years old. She did, however, experience feelings of alienation in her homeland due to the lack of people with whom she could discuss her interests.
Azalea started sharing her rap songs with Derek, a teenager from the Bahamas who she met online, for his feedback. Azalea flew to Miami, where Derek lived at the time, and persuaded her parents to let her go on a holiday trip to the United States just before her 16th birthday. She told her family shortly thereafter that she had made the decision to pursue a career in music in the United States and would not be returning soon. She worked illegally in the United States without a work visa for six years.
