Biz Markie was an American rapper, DJ, and record producer. He is best known for his 1989 single “Just a Friend”. Markie was born Marcel Theo Hall on April 8, 1964. He started rapping professionally in clubs after graduating from high school. In 1988, Markie dropped his first album Goin’ Off, it was not a hit but caught the attention of music executives.
In 1989, Markie released his second album, The Biz Never Sleeps. Which turned out to become his most successful albums. It peaked at Number 9 on the Billboard 100 and was ranked number 100 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop in 2008. In 2002, he made an appearance in Will Smith’s Men in Black II, he also featured in SpongeBob SquarePants, Adventure Time, Sharknado 2: The Second One and Empire.
He also worked as a Disc Jockey on shows like Hip Hop Squares, Hollywood Squares and Blackish.
