He was born Mehmet Cengiz Öz on June 11, 1960, to parents who emigrated from Konya Province, Turkey. He grew up in a secular Muslim household. He bagged his first degree in biology from Harvard University and obtained MD and MBA degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Penn’s Wharton School.
Oz appeared as a health expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show for five years and debuted his show The Dr Oz Show in 2009. He was criticized for his promotion of homoeopathy, and alternative medicine. On his show, he invites psychics, faith healers, and peddlers of unproven and anti-vaccination activists.
