Peter Falk was an American film and television actor. He is best known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo in the long-running television series Columbo. Falk also starred in other films such as Murder, Inc., Pocketful of Miracles, The Princess Bride, Wings of Desire, and Next.
Peter Falk was born on September 16, 1927, to Jewish parents. He wore an artificial eye most of his life because his right eye was surgically removed when he was three because of retinoblastoma. This New Yorker started performing in the play, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial in 1951. He made his film debut in the 1958 film, Wind Across the Everglades but his breakthrough role was Murder, Inc.
Falk got the role of Lieutenant Columbo in 1968 and he was a fan favourite. The show aired until 1978 and won four Emmy awards and a Golden Globe award. He appeared in other films such as A Town Without Christmas, Finding John Christmas, and the thriller Next, alongside Nicolas Cage.

Falk was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008 and sadly passed away on June 23, 2011. He was 83 years old.
