Marlo Thomas is an American actress, producer, and author. She is best known for her role in the sitcom That Girl and feature films like The Real Blonde, and Starstruck. She is also a Golden Globe and Emmy recipient.
Marlo was born Margaret Julia “Marlo” Thomas on November 21, 1937, to a Lebanese-American father and Italian-American mother. She attended the University of Southern California where she got a degree in Education.
She started her acting career on the series Bonanza, she also starred alongside her father Danny in Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theatre.
Marlo had not gotten a breakthrough role and was still a struggling actress but all that changed in 1966 when she was offered the role of Ann Marie in the sitcom That Girl which aired for five years.
The role gave her s star status and got other roles like in Nobody’s Child where she won an Emmy award.
Marlo is also an author, she wrote a children’s book, Free to Be… You and Me. She married television host, Phil Donahue in 1980.
