Robert Selden Duvall is an American actor and filmmaker. This California-native is best known for his role in one of the greatest films, The Godfather. He has received an Academy Award, four Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Duvall was born on January 5, 1931, in California to an actress and a United States Navy rear admiral. He attended Principia College where he majored in Arts. His father expected him to join the Navy but Duvall said “I was terrible at everything but acting….” He made his acting debut in the play, Laughter In The Stars and made his screen debut in Armstrong Circle Theater in 1959.

Duvall got the role of Boo Radley in the critically acclaimed To Kill a Mockingbird, by the 1970s, he was a Hollywood leading man. He worked with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino in the film, 1972 which gave him the nickname “Hollywood’s No. 1 No. 2 lead”.
