His mother taught him how to play the piano at the age of 10. He attributed his interest in music to his church.
Jimmy signed a record label deal with Columbia Records in 1957, he recorded his popular song Big Bad John in 1961. It sold a million copies and was No 1 on the pop chart.
The song earned him a Grammy.
In 1963, Jimmy started the Jimmy Dean Show where he promoted country music by featuring country artists. Dean starred in the James Bond movie, Diamonds are Forever.
Dean created the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company in 1969 with his brother Don. Jimmy’s voice was used for a humorous commercial which was the company’s selling point.

Jimmy Dean died on June 13, 2010, at the age of 81. His wife Donna said he died unexpectedly because he was healthy.
He was buried in a 9-foot-tall piano-shaped mausoleum at his estate with the words “Here Lies One Hell of a Man”.
