James Earl Carter Jr. is the 39th president of the United States of America, he served from 1977 to 1981. He was also the 76th governor of Georgia from 1963 to 1967.

James Earl Carter Jr. was born October 1, 1924. Carter attended Naval Academy and graduated in 1946, he graduated 60th out of 820 midshipmen.

Carter’s political career started as a state senator in Georgia in 1963, where he served for two terms.

Jimmy ran for Governor of Georgia and won the election by 60%. Carter announced his presidential candidacy in 1974, he won by 50% against President Ford and was inaugurated as the 39th President January 20, 1977.

His presidency was marred by the energy crisis which caused the recession. He is credited for giving the Panama Canal back to Panama.

His final year was overwhelmed by the Iran Hostage Crisis which contributed to losing the 1980 elections.

After the Presidency, Carter lived a low-key life helping whenever he was called upon, and serving as a diplomat to various presidents. He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
