Sir Elton Hercules John is a British singer, pianist, and composer. Fondly called the Rocket Man after his 1972 hit single of the same name. He was successful in composing musical films and theatre, composing music for The Lion King. He was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947, the only child of Sheila Eileen. To please his father, Elton joined the Royal Air Force in 1944.
At the age of 11, he got a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music however he dropped out. John met Bernie Taupin in 1967, and they formed a songwriting partnership. He made his debut with the single, “I’ve Been Loving You” and his album, “Your Song”. The album peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200 and number five on the UK Albums Chart.
Elton performed at the Royal Variety Performance in 1972. He went on to become one of the bestselling artists of all time. He won five Grammy awards, two Academy Awards, five Brits awards, and two Golden Globes.
