George Harvey Strait Sr. is an American country singer, songwriter and actor. Believed to be one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time and popularizing neotraditional country.

Strait was born on May 18, 1952 in Texas. He started performing in high school. He went on to Southwest Texas State University where he graduated with a degree in agriculture.

While he was studying at university, he kept performing and looking for gigs. He performed with the group Ace in the Hole Band. In 1981, he released “Unwound” and it was an instant hit. His sound was praised and named neotraditional by critics. He also released “Something Special” and it peaked No. 3 on the chart.

Strait won a Grammy Award and sold over 120 million records worldwide. He tied the knot with Norma, and they had two children Jenifer and George Strait Jr. Sadly, Jenifer died in an automobile accident in 1986.
