Joseph William Frazier was an American boxer. He was nicknamed “Smoking Joe”. He was the first boxer to defeat Muhammed Ali. Joe Frazier was born on January 12, 1944. He started his career as a boxer in 1960 when he left him. He soon began to win matches like Golden Gloves heavyweight for 1962, 1963 and 1964. In 1964, he won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
By 1970, Frazier defeated Jimmy Ellis at Madison Square Garden by technical knockout in the fifth round to become WBA Champion. In 1971, Frazier faced Ali in a match tagged “Fight of the Century”, Frazier won a 15-round unanimous decision. But in 1973, Frazier lost his undefeated record of 29–0 to George Foreman in 1973 at Jamaica.
On October 1, 1975, Frazier met with Ali again, the match was called Thrilla in Manila. The match was viewed by an estimated 1 billion viewers. Ali won the match. Frazier finally retired in 1981.

Joe Frazier was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011. By November 7th of the same year, Joe died under hospice care. He was buried at the Ivy Hill Cemetery.
