About Sheffield United Football Club Academy

Sheffield United Football Club Youth Academy serves as the breeding ground for young talents within Sheffield United. Their Under-18 and Under-23 teams compete in the Professional Development League 2, showcasing the club’s commitment to nurturing promising players. Over the years, Sheffield United’s academy has successfully produced future first-team players, with many of them progressing from the Under-21 squad.

In December 2002, Sheffield United’s youth system was granted Academy status, solidifying its reputation as a reputable institution for player development. A study conducted in July 2017 recognized the academy’s excellence, ranking it as the 7th best academy in terms of minutes played in the 2016-17 Premier League. Remarkably, they outperformed clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, establishing themselves as the top-performing non-top-flight club.

Currently, the Academy is under the guidance of Jack Lester, while Derek Geary takes charge of the U18s side. The team competes at the Shirecliffe Ground located at Firshill Crescent.

The Academy operates from the Club’s Shirebrook training facility, and in 2020, it expanded its influence by taking over the 1st team Strength and Conditioning facility. To ensure top-notch equipment, Perform Better was selected to re-equip the new facility, further enhancing the Academy’s capabilities.

Forward a playing CV to the Academy and kindly include a fixture list with kick-off times and venues for the team that you represent.
Please ensure that you tell us about yourself, your playing history, your position and the type of player you are. Consider our Out RUN, FIGHT & PLAY policy and if you have footage or physical data, please don’t hesitate to include that.
Remember, the academy can only recruit players from within a 60-minute radius of the training ground if you sit within the U9-12 age groups and 90 minutes if you are U13-16s. There are no restrictions on the 17+ age groups. Please bear this in mind when forwarding any details to the Sheffield United FC Academy.
